With tradition, style, and pure functionality, the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms line of diving watches has always been extremely well regarded among dive watch enthusiasts. The newest version of the watch has a totally redesigned face and is now water resistant to 1000 meters. Thus the name has been changed to 500 Fathoms (actually not a proper measurement in fathoms, but that is ok). Inside the watch is a totally in-house made Blancpain automatic movement which is simply incredible. Not only does the movement have several days (5) worth of power reserve, but it is also extremely accurate, of the most accurate mechanical movements on the market.



The 500 Fathoms has a face richly applied with lume and large hour indicators, that coupled with the thick hands, make for really easily legibility in all conditions. The rotating diver's bezel is actually topped with a sapphire crystal that makes it look great and very rugged. The titanium cased watch is also big at 48mm wide. Wow! Attached to the watch is the traditional treated canvas strap, which adds to the diving theme. A metal bracelet is also available. Price will be in excess of $10,000. Christmas Gift Guide: Women's Style

Apparently Christmas has little to do with me any more.

When I suggested to my husband back in July that we have a quiet one by ourselves this year, the idea was met with a gasp of horror.

Why on Earth would you want to spend the morning at the beach, eat fresh seafood for lunch, drink champagne all afternoon and avoid seeing the extended family?

Are you crazy? Let's all cram into the car, drive 300 kilometres away from the ocean, eat a hot roast lunch the in-laws have argued over all day, spend the afternoon washing up and the evening working out an escape plan.

To be fair, the reason Christmas can't be cancelled in our house is due to our delightful three-year-old daughter, Amelia.

She started compiling her Christmas wish list in October (thank you Westfield Bondi Junction for putting up the Christmas decorations so early).

A scooter topped the list along with a white My Little Pony, a surfboard and a visit to the Wiggles house (help, Santa!).

So to get into the Christmas spirit I thought I'd slip a list under the pillow of my not-so-secret Santa who conveniently sleeps next to me every night.

If he's clever he'll notice there are a few things that have been on the list for several years. Starting in alphabetical order: Camilla kaftan, Chanel 2.55 quilted bag, Collette Dinnigan dress, Elle Macpherson underwear and Omega chronometer watch (hint: I like the men's style not the women's).

PS. Happy to pass on all of the above if we can have a quiet Christmas next year.
